Thymalin is a type of polypeptide that can be used to treat immune system dysfunctions such as immune depression and infections caused by viruses and bacteria. It was first created from the thymus of calves and has shown promise in regulating hematopoiesis, combating apoptosis, and promoting regeneration. Its effectiveness in boosting the immune system is based on the restoration of T and B lymphocytes and the resulting increase in activity.
Several studies have examined the effectiveness of thymalin and its peptide components, including EW, KE, and EDP. EW, or thymogen, has been shown to be quite similar to thymalin and is useful in preoperative and postoperative situations. Studies with thymogen have shown that preoperative treatment can restore both functional and structural parameters of immunity, while postoperative treatment can reduce postoperative complications. Thymogen has also been found to have neuroprotective properties in animal experiments, such as decreasing tumors and increasing survival rates.
The KE dipeptide, also known as Vilon, has been shown to activate macrophages, blood lymphocytes, thymocytes, and neutrophils. It also stimulates cellular immunity and assists in the differentiation of T helper cells. Studies have found that introducing the KE dipeptide to transgenic mice can suppress oncogene expression and increase euchromatic proportions while decreasing heterochromatin levels.
Finally, the EDP tripeptide has been tested in the thymic cells of rats exposed to gamma irradiation, leading to accelerated aging. Following the administration of EDP, rats maintained the cortex-medulla division, indicating that the animal was not subject to aging. Additionally, administration of EDP led to an increase in mast cells and macrophages as well as an increase in the proliferation of thymocytes.
Comparative studies have been conducted to examine the effects of thymalin and short peptide complexes on immunogenesis in both young and old mice. Following administration of the short peptides EW, KE, and EDP, there were notable changes in both apoptosis levels and proliferation rate. Overall, the short peptide complexes led to an increase in cell proliferation and a reduction in apoptosis. Thymalin supplementation led to even more significant results, potentially due to the presence of all three short peptides.
The primary concern for peptide researchers today is product purity. Nord-sci guarantees our product purity by performing independent testing of our products and providing those certifications for our customers in our product descriptions.
